Overview
The Cervical Cytology department at Manchester University Foundation Trust is seeking to recruit Trainee Biomedical Scientists to join our Cervical Cytology team. The department processes approximately 450,000 requests, producing around 70,000 cervical cytology slides using the Hologic ThinPrep LBC system. The department is UKAS accredited and IBMS approved for training.
Responsibilities
* The post holder will undertake training to screen and report liquid‑based cervical cytology preparations, working towards the NHSCSP recognised Certificate in Cervical Cytology and the IBMS Registration portfolio.
* Train in laboratory work within Cervical Cytology using a wide range of complex analytical procedures to become an HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist.
* Work with the Training Officer to meet the IBMS code of conduct, HCPC standards of proficiency, and HCPC standards of performance conduct and ethics, gathering evidence and verification of practice for the IBMS Registration Portfolio.
* Cover departmental opening hours (8 am–6 pm, Monday–Friday) and Saturday mornings on a rota basis.
Qualifications and Requirements
* Hold an IBMS accredited degree.
* Candidate may be working towards HCPC re‑registration.
* Full or part‑time availability with flexibility to work the required hours.
