Introduction About the Great Ocean Road Coast and Parks Authority The Great Ocean Road Coast and Parks Authority is the dedicated Victorian Government entity entrusted with the care, protection and sustainable management of one of Australia’s most breathtaking and culturally significant coastal regions. Established under the Great Ocean Road and Environs Protection Act 2020, the Authority was created to address the complex and fragmented management of the coastline and ensure the long-term conservation of this iconic landscape. By November 2025, GORCAPA will be responsible for managing more than 170,000 hectares of coastal reserves, National Parks, Marine Sanctuaries and foreshores stretching along 355 kilometres of stunning coastline. This includes high-profile sites such as the Twelve Apostles Visitor Experience Precinct and Cape Otway Lightstation, as well as local ports, community reserves and critical marine environments. At the heart of its work is a commitment to protect the unique environmental, cultural, heritage and community values of the region. GORCAPA partners deeply with Traditional Owners, local communities and stakeholders to integrate cultural knowledge, ensure environmental stewardship, support sustainable visitation and build lasting benefits for regional economies and generations to come. Description Purpose of the Position The Directorate Support Officer plays a key role in assisting with the smooth and effective operation of the organisation by supporting high-quality administrative coordination and operational support to the Executive Directorate Coordinator and associated Directorates. This position delivers professional, responsive and confidential support across executive, governance and directorate activities, requiring sound judgement, initiative and the ability to manage multiple priorities with confidence. Working closely with a range of stakeholders, the role contributes to well-coordinated workflows, clear communication and timely information sharing. By supporting informed decision-making and facilitating strong connections across Directorates, the Directorate Support Officer helps uphold high standards of governance, confidentiality and organisational integrity, while contributing positively to a collaborative and efficient workplace. Key Accountabilities Provide high-level administrative, meeting, event and logistical support to the Executive Directorate Coordinator, exercising judgement to manage competing priorities, particularly during periods of peak workload or delegated responsibility. Maintain awareness of assigned Directorate priorities, schedules and deliverables to support effective planning and coordination. Demonstrate initiative, sound judgement and a solutions-focused approach, contributing to a positive and professional workplace culture. Provide relief coverage for the Executive Directorate Coordinator during periods of leave, ensuring continuity of high-quality support to the Executive Team. Exercise a high level of confidentiality and discretion in the handling of sensitive correspondence, documentation and information. Assist the Board Secretary with coordination of Board and Committee meetings, including calendar management, logistical arrangements and associated administrative support where necessary. Support governance processes by ensuring meeting-related documentation and records are managed accurately and in a timely manner. Skills And Experiences What we're looking for? Tertiary qualification in a related field (e.g. administration, business, public sector management). Demonstrated experience providing high-level administrative or directorate support in a complex organizational environment, government/public sector experience preferred. Experience supporting multi-disciplinary teams and senior stakeholders, contributing to effective coordination and service continuity. Demonstrated experience using a range of software applications and digital tools to support administrative functions, including the Microsoft Office Suite. Experience contributing to process improvement initiatives, streamlining administrative workflows and enhancing service delivery within established frameworks. About you? Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills, with demonstrated ability to engage professionally and effectively with executives, staff and external stakeholders. Proven capacity to operate confidently in sensitive, complex or politically nuanced environments, ensuring communication is timely, respectful and aligned with organisational standards. Ability to manage executive calendars, meeting and event logistics and correspondence tracking, while exercising judgement and accountability. Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgement and maintain strict confidentiality Well-developed analytical and problem-solving skills, with demonstrated ability to identify issues, options and contribute to solutions-focused outcomes. Demonstrated ability to plan and prioritize workloads across competing demands and multiple stakeholders, working with a level of autonomy.
