The role

Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital Breast Care Service for an enthusiastic and committed individual to join the existing team of 6 Clinical Nurse Specialists. The trust is part of the Breast Surgery Specialty Clinical Network incorporating both the James Paget and Queen Elizabeth hospitals.

We are a dynamic and dedicated team of Breast Clinical Nurse Specialists who work within a multidisciplinary specialty. The Boudicca Breast Unit is a very busy department, seeing more than 700 breast cancer patients a year. As Clinical Nurse Specialists, we work autonomously, as well as collaboratively, and aim to develop, implement and evaluate our service to achieve the highest standard of clinical care. Contact and care commence at pre‑diagnosis, through diagnosis, treatment options, follow up and survivorship. We are a service that is continually evolving to address the changing needs of our patients.

Responsibilities

  • Act as a resource to all colleagues within the Trust and Community in the delivery of care to breast cancer patients.
  • Participate in mentoring, supervision and continuing education for nurses/AHCP in training and post registration, both in hospital and community.
  • Provide information and continuing support to women and men and their families throughout the duration of their cancer journey, promoting person centred care.
  • Identify and maintain a network of support services and contacts to enable a high standard of care to breast cancer patients.
  • Assist in research projects/audit processes and Quality assurance projects.
  • Manage nurse‑led survivorship clinics / complex wound clinics and assist in breaking bad news.
  • Promote and utilise close links and referral pathways to genetics, fertility services, lymphoedema services and our own Breast Psychologist to manage effects of cancer treatment.
  • Promote seamless care for patients with oncology and Plastics and other modalities, and hold established forms of communication to ensure the safety and wellbeing of patients.
  • Support the delivery of a high quality, safe and compassionate healthcare service; all staff are expected to act as a role model to others in all aspects of their work and consistently demonstrate NNUH's PRIDE values of People focused, Respect, Integrity, Dedication and Excellence.
