Company Description Self-employed is seeking a Virtual Reality Development Specialist to support immersive technology projects for a range of clients and use cases. The work focuses on designing and building interactive VR and AR experiences that solve real-world problems and enhance user engagement. Projects may span training, simulation, entertainment, education, and product visualization. As a self-employed professional, you will have significant autonomy, direct client interaction, and the opportunity to shape both the technical direction and creative vision of each engagement.
Role Description This is a full-time, on-site role based in Solihull for a Virtual Reality Development Specialist. You will design, develop, and test VR applications, implementing interactive features, user interfaces, and optimized 3D environments. Day-to-day responsibilities include collaborating with clients to define requirements, translating concepts into technical specifications, and iterating on prototypes based on feedback and usability testing. You will integrate VR and AR technologies, troubleshoot performance and device issues, and ensure applications run smoothly across supported platforms. The role also involves maintaining documentation, staying current with VR/AR frameworks and industry trends, and helping plan project timelines and deliverables.
Qualifications

* Strong skills in Virtual Reality Development and Virtual Reality (VR), including building interactive VR experiences and working with relevant engines or frameworks.
* Experience or familiarity with Augmented Reality (AR) and integrating AR features alongside VR solutions.
* Solid foundation in Computer Science concepts such as object-oriented programming, algorithms, data structures, and software architecture.
* Effective Communication skills, including the ability to explain technical concepts clearly to non-technical stakeholders and collaborate with clients and partners.
* Proficiency with at least one major game engine (e.g., Unity, Unreal Engine) and programming languages commonly used in VR (e.g., C#, C++).
* Experience with 3D assets, basic understanding of 3D modeling or animation workflows, and performance optimization for real-time applications.
* Ability to manage projects independently, prioritize tasks, and deliver high-quality work on schedule in an on-site environment.
* Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Interactive Media, or equivalent practical experience is preferred.
