The Job
The Trading Manager role is a full-time, permanent position within the Trading Support Department. You will lead the buying team and oversee all aspects of the tender cycle, including contract and pricing negotiations with suppliers. You will collaborate with the wider trading support management team to source products that meet proposition requirements, ensuring ethical sourcing and delivering best-in-market cost prices. Work centers on the needs of member Students’ Unions across Licensed Trade, Catering and Retail categories.
Key responsibilities:
* Lead the buying team and manage the tender cycle from sourcing to contract negotiation.
* Negotiate contracts and prices with suppliers to secure best-in-market costs.
* Collaborate with the trading support management team to source products that meet proposition requirements.
* Ensure products are ethically sourced and aligned with member unions’ needs across Licensed Trade, Catering and Retail categories.
Who You Are
The ideal candidate will have experience negotiating high-value contracts across a portfolio of categories with buying rules and a strong understanding of ethical purchasing. You’ll excel at leading and motivating a team, with meticulous attention to detail and strong interpersonal skills for engaging diverse stakeholders. You should be confident negotiating budgets and managing tender processes and software. You will contribute to a team dedicated to empowering students, supporting unions, and driving positive change in the UK education sector.
