Job Overview
Consultant Haematology – Grade Consultant Contract (Permanent). Based at Leighton Hospital, Mid Cheshire. Full-time (10 programmes per week) with on‑call commitments; part‑time considered for flexibility.
Responsibilities
* Provide consultant‑level clinical and laboratory haematology services, ensuring best practice standards.
* Conduct three outpatient clinics per week, including haematology oncology and classical haematology, and liaison services for inpatient care and GP advice.
* Deliver specialist input for in‑patients at Leighton Hospital and provide care for outpatients treated at Macmillan Cancer Care Unit.
* Participate in multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings, Christie network MDTs, and hospital transfusion committee.
* Support staff in service delivery, develop personal special interests aligned with service needs, and contribute to day‑to‑day operations of haematology and lymphoma services.
* Engage in NEQAS film reporting and diagnostic haematology services, including cytogenetics and molecular studies.
Qualifications
* FRCP / MRCP or equivalent AND FRCPath or equivalent.
* Full and specialist registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) (or eligibility to register within six months).
* UK‑trained: holder of Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) or within six months of award; non‑UK trained: evidence of equivalence to UK CCT.
* MD/PhD or equivalent research/teaching qualification.
Experience & Skills
* Clinical experience in general haematology, blood transfusion, coagulation, and malignant haematology.
* Evidence of ongoing professional development and contemporary medical knowledge.
* Knowledge of core legal, ethical, and political issues governing medical practice.
* Leadership and people‑management experience; ability to implement policies, review resources, and manage performance.
* Proficiency in teaching and research, publication record or recent research activity.
Additional Information
Applicants applying directly (not via agency) may receive a one‑off attraction payment of 20% of the first year’s salary, subject to remaining in post for a minimum of two years. Flexible working arrangements may be considered.
Applicants must be within 30 minutes travel time to the hospital; willingness to travel to other sites is required.
