Rate of Pay : £18.01- £23.75 per hour Summary: As a Highways Inspector (BR9), you will serve as a vital link between Bromley Council and the public, ensuring the safety and integrity of the borough's highway network. You will be responsible for the proactive inspection and monitoring of highway assets, identifying risks or defects, and coordinating with contractors and utility companies to ensure timely repairs. Your role is dual-purpose: maintaining high technical standards for the built environment while providing excellent public liaison to keep residents and stakeholders informed. Responsibilities Conduct regular, scheduled visual inspections of highway assets (carriageways, footways, and street furniture) to identify defects and ensure compliance with safety standards. Manage and resolve customer enquiries regarding highway maintenance. This includes providing professional updates on the Council website and direct communication to keep the public informed of progress. Oversee raised orders from inception to completion, ensuring quality control and financial accountability for the repairs undertaken. Maintain accurate digital records of inspections and actions taken using the Council's asset management systems. Qualifications: A degree, HND/HNC, or equivalent experience in Civil Engineering, Surveying, or a related technical field. Possession of (or the ability to obtain) NRSWA (New Roads and Street Works Act) accreditation. Essentials: Proven experience in highway maintenance, construction, or civil engineering inspections. Familiarity with the Highways Act 1980 and health and safety regulations relevant to street works. A full, clean UK driving license is essential for travel throughout the borough.
