Are you passionate about fire safety and ready to make a real impact across a diverse and dynamic organisation? Plymouth City Council is seeking a strategic and experienced Fire Safety Advisor to lead and deliver a comprehensive fire safety advisory service across all council assets and capital projects.
About The Role
* Provide expert fire safety advice, training, and support across the organisation.
* Lead the development and delivery of the annual Fire Safety workplan.
* Monitor performance through KPIs and contribute to corporate assurance reporting.
* Liaise with enforcing authorities such as HSE and Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue Service.
* Investigate fire-related incidents and drive continuous improvement.
* Advise on fire safety strategy for new builds, refurbishments, and estate changes.
* Deliver a fire evacuation drill programme and support external service delivery.
What We’re Looking For
Essential Qualifications & Experience
* Degree in Fire Safety / Fire Engineering or NEBOSH Fire Safety Certificate with equivalent experience.
* Membership of a relevant professional body (e.g., IFE, CMIOSH).
* Strong knowledge of fire safety legislation and building regulations.
* Experience in public sector or complex estates.
* Proven leadership in fire safety policy and emergency procedure development.
* Delivery of fire safety training and risk assessments.
Desirable
* Experience with high-rise buildings or housing stock.
* Familiarity with DSEAR assessments and process fire risks.
* Knowledge of fire safety in multi-site, high-risk environments.

* Strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities.
* Ability to manage multiple priorities and work autonomously.
* Strong IT skills, including MS Word, Excel, Assure, and Civica.
