Job Description:
We are looking for an experienced Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) Engineer to join us on a contract basis 2 days a week for approximately 4-6 months. This role will be Inside IR35 and based at our offices in Alton. Hybrid working can be offered.
This contract role will cover EMC analysis, validation, verification, and mitigation.
Given the prominent nature of EMC on one of our projects, we are seeking an EMC Engineer to focus on EMC aspects (including Magnetic Cleanliness and Electrostatic Charging) in the design of the spacecraft, as well as in AIVT planning (handling, storage, and transport).
Responsibilities include:
* Undertaking preliminary breakdown of EMC requirements related to Electromagnetic Cleanliness and Mission Requirement Document at various levels (space segment, spacecraft, subsystem, platform, payload).
* Creating DC magnetic moment budgets (bottom-up) for all equipment, considering distances to sensitive equipment, and showing levels at sensor locations.
* Performing bottom-up AC electric and magnetic field contributor analysis, considering major contributors and distances to sensitive equipment.
* Assessing and designing the Solar Array regarding its effects on budgets, including failure scenarios, temperature effects, and contamination.
* Assessing and designing the impact of booms containing sensitive scientific instruments, focusing on hold-down and release mechanisms, cabling, and shielding.
* Assessing and optimizing antenna patterns of instruments and platform equipment.
* Evaluating the spacecraft/surface charging environment.
* Proposing testing and verification approaches, considering available facilities.
* Preparing EMC Control and Verification Plans according to ECSS-E-ST-20C.
