The Havens is London’s Sexual Assault Referral Centre (SARC) service, provided by King’s College Hospital, and delivered currently from three sites, Camberwell, Whitechapel and St Charles Hospital, Ladbroke Grove. The service is jointly commissioned by NHS England specialised commissioning Health in the Justice Team and the Mayor’s Office for Policing and Crime (MOPAC).
The Havens provide a 24/7 emergency forensic medical examination service for the whole of London for both police and self-referred clients. Follow-up medical and sexual health services, an independent sexual violence adviser (ISVA) team and counselling and clinical psychology services are also provided.
Additionally, the service has its own specialist children’s team.
As Senior Forensic Nurse Examiner you will be responsible for the professional management and leadership of trainee Forensic Nurse Examiners, demonstrating a supportive and flexible leadership approach and a proactive, responsible attitude to promote confidence in the team and the service.
You will develop and maintain a team of trainee and Forensic Nurse examiners to ensure effective, financially efficient and excellent standards of patient care underpinned by trauma-informed practice
You will lead on the management of individual episodes of client care for clients independently and autonomously carrying out forensic medical examinations and collection of evidence post sexual assault
Main duties of the job
To be accountable for your own practice and to utilise available opportunities to sustain and improve knowledge and professional competence
As a Senior Forensic Nurse examiner will provide advanced level, autonomous nursing care to clients following sexual assault, this will include providing immediate aftercare
You will autonomously complete a forensic medical examination as appropriate for the purpose of the collection of forensic evidence, this will include being proficient in the use of the colposcope and digital photography.
As a Senior Forensic Nurse Examiner, you will maintain a high standard of safeguarding for clients by directly supporting the nursing and wider teams to ensure they are aware and compliant with adult and child safeguarding training and procedures.
As a senior nurse in the team, you will provide clinical leadership within the multi professional team to ensure the delivery of care and professional practice in line with Kings values
