Trainee DBT Therapist – Specialist Mental Health Practitioner, Band 6 (Part‑time, 22.5 hours per week)
Job Summary
The Intensive Psychological Therapies Service (IPTS) at Dorset HealthCare provides evidence‑based treatment for people with complex trauma and long‑standing interpersonal difficulties. The role is to deliver Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) and related modalities to individuals in a time‑limited, focused manner, working under the direction of the Head of IPTS.
Key Responsibilities
* Deliver a comprehensive psychological therapy assessment and specialist intervention service, including DBT and related treatments.
* Recommend patient allocation to appropriate interventions and provide peer clinical supervision as directed.
* Maintain adherence to NIMHE Personality Disorder guidelines (2003) and evidence‑based practice.
* Manage caseload, plan and prioritise patient workload, including group sessions in an independent and team setting.
* Provide consultation to professional and non‑professional groups.
Person Specification – Essential
* Recognised qualification in a core mental health profession (psychology, psychiatric nursing, social work or occupational therapy).
* Previous experience in mental health.
* High level of professionalism when dealing with emotional, distressing and potentially abusive situations.
* Assessment and treatment experience with complex trauma and interpersonal difficulties.
* Skills in risk assessment, intervention and management required for sustained, intense concentration.
Person Specification – Desirable
* Formal training or awareness of DBT (e.g. Introduction to DBT).
* Experience of teaching, training and/or supervision.
Training and Development
Training in DBT will be provided through a 2‑year course leading to a Postgraduate Diploma in DBT, supported by the IPTS DBT team based in Poole and Dorchester.
Employment Conditions
* Band 6 salary range: £23,209 to £27,948 per annum.
* Permanent contract.
* Part‑time – 22.5 hours per week.
* Location: Branksome Clinic, 51a Layton Road, Poole, BH12 2BJ.
