Senior Lead – Central Financial Management
Overview
The Central Financial Management Team in the NHS England Finance and Planning Directorate is recruiting a Senior Lead to manage, report and execute the organisation’s multi‑billion pound budget and ensure that NHS England delivers excellent outcomes for patients and staff. The role involves working closely with government, senior NHS stakeholders and the NHS workforce to allocate, monitor and report on funding, develop financial plans and support innovative programmes that improve the delivery and experience of NHS services.
Main duties
* Work closely with government to agree NHS funding and ensure the NHS lives within its annual budget.
* Decide how to distribute funding to different NHS services and parts of England.
* Support innovative programmes that improve the care and experience of NHS patients or people using NHS services.
* Set out the financial and performance priorities that NHS should be delivering each year.
* Report on NHS spending on services each year and explore ways to make best use of money.
* Analyse spend on building or equipment and consider how nationally we use these resources to improve outcomes.
Qualifications and experience
* Must hold a CCAB or CIMA professional accountancy qualification and have extensive post‑qualifying experience.
* Detailed understanding of NHS Finance, financial performance management and value for money at a strategic level.
* Expertise in financial accounting standards, financial systems and processes, statutory accounts and government financial framework documents.
* Strong numerical and technical competence, with demonstrated leadership in financial accounting/management.
* Ability to provide and receive highly complex, sensitive and contentious information, negotiate with senior stakeholders and present complex data to influential groups.

Salary & benefits
£79,504 to £91,609 per annum (exclusive of London weighting). Fixed‑term contract for 10 months with full‑time working pattern. The role may be based in London or Leeds.
