Dundee Satellite Station Ltd is expanding to meet growing customer demand and requires additional technical support for its new Satellite Ground Station facility near Thurso. The bulk of the work involves monitoring and supporting ground station operations from home, using a company supplied laptop. Cover is required 7 days a week, split between staff. There will be a requirement for periodic site visits for routine maintenance and/or meeting external contractors. Technical staff may also have to attend the site to deal with technical issues that arise, with the expectation that most of this site work will be carried out 9-5. Applicants should note that occasional site attendance outside standard 9-5 hours may be required in the event of an alarm being triggered. The technician posts may be offered as full-time or part-time or a mixture of both. The company is happy to discuss suitable work patterns with candidates selected for interview. The company has some flexibility to take account of an applicant’s personal circumstances providing the SGS site has the necessary coverage overall. Successful candidates will join a small, dedicated team and must be adaptable, selfmotivated, and capable of working independently. Applicants should have practical experience in a technical or engineering environment. An HND or equivalent in electrical or engineering disciplines is preferred, though candidates with relevant hands-on experience (e.g., mechanical apprenticeship or UK armed services background) will be considered. Basic IT skills are essential but full training on the company monitoring systems will be provided. A company laptop and mobile phone will be supplied. As part of Scotland’s growing space industry, this role offers the opportunity to contribute to meaningful projects within a dynamic, management-owned company. Key Responsibilities Remote monitoring of ground station sites from home using company secure systems. Normally 9-5 on allocated working days. Remote supervision of any lone-working colleagues via CCTV. Normally 9-5 on allocated working days. Scheduled site visits for inspections and routine maintenance. This would likely be a single visit each week, sometime in the Monday to Friday 9-5 period. On-site support for operational issues and contractor access. These would be infrequent and normally happen Monday to Friday 9-5, but for urgent operational issues site visits may need to happen at a weekend. Emergency site access as a key holder, to respond to alarms. While very infrequent, this could be at any time day or night as we offer clients a one-hour response to alarms. The company would require a commitment from the applicant to stay close to home at all time during their allocated work days, when they would be the person “on call” to respond to an alarm. Working Pattern Can be Full-time (37.5 hours a week) or Part-time (designated days and hours as agreed) primarily working from home. Some weekend working is likely to be required, as well as flexibility to cover for colleagues during holidays and/or sickness absences as part of a small team. Staff need to remain capable and close to home at all times during their designated days to ensure that they can respond to alarm call outs.
