Surgical SDEC/CDU Assistant

Arare opportunity has arisen to join the Clinical Decisions Unit/Surgical SDECat UHND, we are looking to recruit apart time health care assistant to work alongside our established team ofadvanced nurse practitioners, health care assistants and admin staff in ourbusy surgical unit. This position is for 24hours, which will be 2 12hour shiftsper week, we are open from 0730-2000 365 days per year including weekends andbank holidays.
Youmust be confident dealing with patients and staff, approachable, a team playerand computer literate, our unit provides same day emergency care for general surgicalissues, we also provide aftercare for complex surgical patients post dischargeand run a daily dressings clinic.

Main duties of the job
As a HCA within surgical SDEC you will workunder the guidance of the advanced nurse practitioners, you will do clinicalobservations, urinealysis, ECG's, venepuncture and cannulation as required foreach patient who attends the unit. You will also play a key role in the managementof the dressings clinic, training will be provided but experience/knowledge ofwound care would be advantageous. You will need to be able to use EPR systemssuch a powerchart to document patient encounters and also revenue cycle toadmit and transfer patients. Surgical experience/knowledge would also beadvantegous, as would experience of working in emergency care. You must be keento learn but able to use your own initative and also work well under pressureas the unit can be very busy, being able to priortise tasks is essential.

We provide hospital services from two acute sites - Darlington Memorial Hospital and University Hospital of North Durham. We have a centre for planned care in Bishop Auckland and provide care from community hospitals in Chester-le-Street, Shotley Bridge, Barnard Castle, Sedgefield and Weardale as well as over 80 other community based settings and providing care in patients' homes.

From April 9th 2025 - Healthcare assistants - You must have a minimum of two yearsof experience working within the NHS as a HCA for the Trust to considersponsorship (we will only consider sponsorship if you meet this criteria andhave a current visa expiring within 3 months)

* Healthcare experience is essential.
