About the Role
We are currently seeking a Project Manager to join the Hartree Centre to deliver projects that help businesses solve their challenges through the adoption of cutting-edge technology. The role will sit within the Hartree Centre’s Programme Management Office, which provides professional and technical programme management leadership to the Hartree Centre’s wide range of projects.
As project manager you will be responsible for the successful delivery of a range of projects from our portfolio. You will use your understanding and interest in technology alongside your project management experience to manage a range of projects, you will enable reliable planning and informed decision making and provide accurate and informative reporting through the use and maintenance of appropriate project tools and reporting. An understanding of technology and a rigorous approach to formal project management is essential alongside the ability to analytically interpret, record and present project plans, risks and performance data to investigate project issues.
Duties Include:
* Own the delivery of a portfolio of projects from technical scoping through to completion on behalf of the Centre.
* Liaise with technical PIs, collaborators and project partners to understand and agree technical project requirements, manage key deliverables, agree roles and responsibilities and ensure both internal and external stakeholder commitment is gained and maintained throughout the programme.
* Provide delivery expertise, guidance and input to our projects with particular focus on providing knowledge and understanding relating to project delivery processes, continuous improvement and operational excellence.
* Maintain an overview of the projects allocated at all times, managing budgets, timelines and resources, whilst working with our partners to ensure all agreed deliverables and outcomes are achieved to time, budget and quality.
* Use the appropriate STFC and UKRI tools to produce relevant reports, manage programme and project plans and monitor and control project finances.
* Lead and manage other internal teams through relevant wider STFC processes (for example the Bid Register), including the preparation of internal and external programme documentation
* Work closely with technical PIs, collaborators, BD teams and other stakeholders in the setup, operation and maintenance of projects including validating technical requirements, leading project initiation activities, creating programme and project schedules, updating resource allocations, developing, curating and populating project reports and closely managing risk and issue logs to ensure successful delivery.
Person Specification
* APM PMQ project management certification or relevant demonstrable experience in providing professional project management services to a complex organisation preferably in a scientific or technology environment.
* Comprehensive experience of delivering technical projects as a project manager within a complex delivery environment.
* Up-to-date understanding and evidence of applying formal project management methods, controls and processes to technical projects.
* Demonstrable excitement for technology and our projects.
* Strong communication and personal skills, good writing style, comprehensive experience of creating and proving written and verbal reports and presentations.
* Ability to integrate into and lead project delivery activities in a highly collaborative and semi structured environment.
Our centre uses a range of project management and administrative tools; therefore, a good working knowledge of Microsoft office applications such as PowerPoint, SharePoint, Word and Excel will also be key
