What's involved with this role: Job Title: Head of Finance and Governance Reference: Surrey 122512 Salary: £28.62 per hour PAYE with accrued holiday and pension contribution Hours: 37 hours per week Monday-Friday Role length: 6 months opening assignment Job type: On-site Location: Surrey Contract Type: Temporary The role: You will lead finance, governance and reporting for Active Surrey, supporting the Head of Active Surrey and the Board. The role covers financial management of c.£3.5m, full compliance with Tier 3 of the UK Code for Sports Governance, and the delivery of high quality analysis to support operational and strategic decisions. Key Responsibilities: Provide clear financial analysis, forecasting and reporting for the Board, SLT and project teams. Lead the annual budget, forecasting cycle and preparation of annual management accounts. Maintain strong financial controls, reconciliations and compliance across the organisation. Ensure governance is robust and aligned with Tier 3 of the UK Code for Sports Governance. Prepare quarterly variance reports and present financial performance to the Board and committees. Support longer-term financial planning, reserves management and business planning for new initiatives. Work closely with SCC, Sport England, DfE and other partners on finance and governance matters. Improve financial awareness across the team and strengthen financial challenge. Line manage and develop the Business Support Officer. What the client is looking for: A fully qualified finance professional (ACA, ACCA or similar). Strong background in financial management, analysis and reporting at a senior level. Demonstrable governance experience, ideally with the Essential Sports Governance qualification. Experience advising senior leaders and presenting complex financial information clearly. Capable of managing multiple projects, deadlines and stakeholders with minimal guidance Skilled in improving systems, processes and controls. Confident communicator with sound judgement and problem-solving ability. Desirable: Experience working within public sector, sport, charity or not-for-profit environments. Understanding of Sport England funding and requirements. Previous experience supporting or managing a board or governance committee.
