We are recruiting for an exceptional individual to join us as a Clinical Research Fellow and are keen to engage with colleagues in diabetes and endocrinology who have an interest in progressing an MD thesis whilst simultaneously making a significant contribution to the delivery of diabetes, metabolic and endocrine clinical trials.

This is a fixed-term appointment for 2 years from February 2026 with the potential for flexible working.


The purpose of the role will be to assist in the commercial clinical trial portfolio in NHS Tayside in diabetes, metabolic disease and cardiology, providing doctor support to a number of different studies in set up, active recruitment and follow up.


Your priorities will include:

As a Research Fellow you will help co-ordinate the recruitment and retention of patients in clinical trials and support with research participant visits. This post is primarily research, and you will shape your research plan based upon your interests and expertise. You would be expected to undertake at least 1 day a week of clinical work in your specialty. Although the position is fully funded, we would anticipate you working with your supervisor to apply for external funding.


Who we’re looking for:

* Doctors in training who have completed core medical training or those in specialist registrar posts looking for out-of-programme research.
* Whilst successful applicants need not have undertaken research before, we will be looking for evidence of drive and enthusiasm for clinical academia.
* Doctors with clinical diabetes and endocrinology experience.
* Doctors must be registered with the GMC and be licensed to practice in the UK.



Clinical Duties

Each post holder will have the opportunity to spend at least a day a week on clinical duties to maintain clinical skills and experience, these will vary based on the speciality and clinical experience of the post holder.
