Howdens Joinery has a great opportunity for a Senior Financial Accountant to join our Operational Finance team based at our Croxley office four days a week with one day working from home. We’re looking for a fully qualified Accountant who is confident working with senior stakeholders and comfortable balancing hands on accounting with field based support. What You Will Do in This Role
- Lead and manage the fixed asset accounting process, including asset allocation, new depots, relocations, and investment appraisals
- Support the Wales and West region, building strong relationships with Regional Directors, Area Managers and depot teams
- Travel regularly within the region to meet stakeholders, attend meetings and provide in‑person financial support
- Support your region by providing clear financial insight, analysis, and practical commercial support
- Present financial information in a simple, engaging way to non‑finance colleagues, including contributing to Profit and Loss training for new manager
- Interpret complex data sets and present findings and recommendations to senior management
- Support and develop your team member ensuring accurate and consistent financial reporting
- Assist with period end‑end close and ensure accounts are completed accurately and on time
What We Are Looking For
- Fully qualified accountant (CIMA, ACCA, ACA)
- Excellent Excel skills (able to interpret and manipulate complex data)
- Experience working in a large, multi‑site or multi‑region organisation
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, stay organised and look ahead to prevent bottlenecks
- Strong communication skills and the confidence to present to non‑finance audiences
- Proactive and engaged with the business, you’ll be comfortable spending time in the field with stakeholders
- Ability to manage and support a direct report effectively
It would be an advantage if you have
- Experience in an operational or commercial finance role in a similar environment
- Experience coaching stakeholders with varying levels of financial knowledge
- Background in investment appraisal, capital projects or asset‑heavy environments
