Your new role
Southend City Council are looking for a strategic, forward-thinking Climate Change Manager to lead the development and delivery of their climate strategy and sustainability goals.
This is an exciting opportunity to drive transformative action across our organisation and community, supporting their journey towards net zero and environmental resilience.
This is a fulltime and permanent post and is offered on a hybrid basis (blend of working from home and office).
As a Climate change manager, you will co-ordinate, manage and successfully implement a variety of climate mitigation, adaptation and resilience strategies policies and projects across the council operations to meet the corporate ambition to achieve net zero carbon by 2030. You will work with partner authorities to deliver cross boundary cooperation on climate mitigation, adaptation and resilience in Southend-on-Sea. You will support the Head of Service in ensuring the development and delivery of the climate change programme, strategies, policies and projects across the city to support the ambition to be a net zero carbon city by 2030.
You will facilitate the day-to-day management of the climate change programme, including taking the programme forward, supervising the team and ensuring the sustainability of corporate projects, plans policies and programmes. You will manage communications with internal and external partners to assist in the development and implementation of the corporate climate change programme. You will project manage external consultants and contractors as necessary to deliver schemes, including providing effective monitoring and management of performance and develop effective partnerships with service providers.
What you'll need to succeed
To be successful in this role, a strong background in climate change policy, sustainability, or environmental management is essential. It is crucial that you have proven experience of developing and implementing climate action strategies. Excellent project management and stakeholder engagement skills are required for this post.
You must be able to effectively manage risks, project budgets, develop and manage project plans, manage stakeholders. It is also vital that you can manage complex issues, problem solve and establish clear policies, plan resource allocation and processes that turn objectives into action.
You must have a clean driving license and access to your own vehicle.
