About the role
NFU Mutual’s Head Office Underwriting Department is pleased to offer an opportunity for an experienced professional to join as an Engineering Insurance Underwriter on a 12-month Fixed Term Contract. The role may become permanent for the right candidate, but this is not guaranteed.
This is a great time to join us as we expand our commercial customer offerings, leveraging our mutual approach—building trust, establishing long-term relationships, and prioritizing our customers.
The role involves recommending and developing underwriting strategies for our Engineering Insurance, establishing rules, terms, and risk features to support profit and growth objectives while managing risk effectively.
You will collaborate with our Propositions department and stakeholders to set growth targets and define risk appetite. Key responsibilities include:
1. Translating underwriting appetite into actionable rules, processes, and communications for NFU Mutual Agents and Underwriters
2. Reviewing and providing expert judgment on risk rates based on deep insurance and market knowledge
3. Analyzing management information to identify opportunities for strategy improvement and meeting business requirements
This role is internally known as Class Underwriter – Line of Business.
About you
We seek a professional with extensive Underwriting or Broker experience in Engineering Breakdown Insurance, possessing strong communication skills and the ability to build impactful relationships. You should be proactive, initiative-driven, and eager to improve processes.
Additionally, we look for:
* Experience in a head office function, with strategic thinking and project management skills
* Strong knowledge of the Engineering Insurance market and factors influencing its performance
* Negotiation and influencing skills, with experience collaborating across stakeholders
* Effective communication skills for diverse audiences
* High data literacy and the ability to derive insights from data
An ACII qualification is advantageous but not essential.
