Overview

This role sits within the National Environmental Crime Unit and involves leading investigations into serious environmental crimes as a Senior Environmental Crime Officer.
You will work alongside Senior Investigation Managers and the Major Incident Room to coordinate and drive investigations, from identifying lines of enquiry and reviewing intelligence to raising and allocating actions, coordinating evidence gathering and interviews, through to casefile preparation and, ultimately, prosecution.
This is a hybrid role with travel for meetings and operational duties, and you will be required to respond to incidents as part of your duties. Full training and equipment will be provided as part of your induction.
Responsibilities
* Lead, coordinate and progress investigations into serious environmental crimes (including involvement of Organised Crime Groups, illegal waste exports and large-scale fraud).
* Identify lines of enquiry, review intelligence, raise and allocate actions, and coordinate evidence gathering and interviews.
* Prepare case files and support prosecution through to successful outcomes.
* Collaborate with Partnership Organisations and develop investigative teams and complex investigations.
* Work with the Major Incident Room and Senior Investigation Managers to drive investigations forward and develop the team.
Experience and Skills
* High attention to detail, hard-working, self-motivated with a strong investigative background.
* In-depth knowledge of investigative legislation (PACE and CPIA) and strong verbal and written skills.
* Basic IT competency (Microsoft Word, Excel, Teams) and knowledge of environmental crime and Major Incident Room workings; leading on serious criminal investigations is desirable.
* Experience in driving, initiative-taking, and building/developing investigation teams is beneficial.
* Successful completion of SC and NPPV2 Vetting within a 6-month probationary period; full driving licence is required.
Role-specific Requirements
* Hybrid working with home and office locations; regular travel for meetings and operational duties; incident response duties and availability for incidents with potential added compensation and training.
