Job Description

Job Title: Communications & Engagement Officer

Location: Newcastle, Bristol, Preston, York or Poole

Start Date: ASAP

Assignment Length: 6 months with the possibility to extend

Rate of Pay: £17.25ph - Weekly Pay

Shift Patterns: Monday to Friday (flexi working)

Brook Street is recruiting on behalf of the Marine Management Organisation (MMO) for a Communications & Engagement Officer to join the team on a full-time basis for up to six months.

This role is key in supporting a major campaign aimed at promoting UK exports to the EU. A link to the news story covering the campaign launch is available here which may be helpful for candidates to review.

We are seeking someone with excellent content production skills - including copywriting, social media content, and video editing - and a passion for bringing new ideas to the table. This is a fast-paced role where the ability to start quickly is essential, and flexible working is available.

Job Purpose:

This role supports the MMO in how it engages and communicates with key delivery partners and stakeholders.

The successful postholder will support the delivery of internal and external communications plans and engagement activity by:

1. Developing materials and content for MMO engagement channels
2. Leading day-to-day content creation for MMO core channels
3. Supporting the handling of media enquiries
4. Providing communications and engagement advice to MMO, Defra and other project teams
5. Promoting the MMO's reputation at local, national and international levels
6. Using strong copywriting, digital and PR skills to seek opportunities for promotion
7. Engaging stakeholders to foster advocacy for MMO
8. Supporting overall communications delivery across the organisation
9. Supporting brand development and ensuring alignment with Cabinet Office requirements

Day-to-Day Responsibilities:

10. Achieving personal and team KPIs
11. Embedding MMO values and code of conduct
12. Adhering to all MMO policies and procedures
13. Developing and maintaining stakeholder relationships
14. Taking ownership of personal and professional development
15. Supporting corporate initiatives
16. Promoting the MMO brand externally
17. Carrying out other reasonable duties as required

Key Performance Indicators:

18. Timely and effective communications
19. Support with managing media incidents
20. Stakeholder feedback aligned with the engagement programme

Qualifications and Experience Required -

Essential:

21. Minimum 3 years of experience in communications and complex stakeholder/customer interaction
22. Proven track record in delivering communications activity
23. Experience in developing digital assets (videos, infographics, social content, visuals)
24. Ability to interpret stakeholder feedback and apply it effectively
25. Experience managing changing priorities in line with organisational goals
26. Strong communication and engagement skills across a range of media

Desirable:

27. Membership (ideally chartership) of a recognised professional communications body
28. Experience of marine communications within a UK Government Department
29. Understanding of MMO operations and the marine industries it supports
30. Knowledge of UK Government and legislative marine processes

Key Results Areas

Engagement:

31. Develop and deliver external engagement content for MMO initiatives and programmes
32. Produce engaging internal content across a range of channels
33. Support a coordinated stakeholder engagement approach
34. Gather and apply feedback from engagement activities
35. Manage the MMO's reputation and handle issues effectively
36. Run proactive engagement campaigns to increase awareness of MMO's work
37. Provide communication and engagement advice to internal teams
38. Manage MMO's digital presence including social media and public forums
39. Identify and escalate reputational risks and communication issues
