Senior Safeguarding Officer
* Job Type: Full-time (Temporary)
* Location: South east London
* Hours per Week: 37 (Note: Lunch breaks are unpaid)
* Contract End Date: 26/06/2026
* Hourly Rate: £22.50- £25p/h
We are seeking a dedicated Senior Safeguarding Officer to join our team at the South East London Campus. This role is crucial in ensuring the college meets all statutory obligations related to safeguarding and promoting a holistic approach to the welfare of students. The successful candidate will work closely with the Group Head of Safeguarding and other key stakeholders, both internal and external.
Day-to-day of the role:
* Work across allocated college sites and liaise with external stakeholders including the local authority, attending regular meetings both internally and externally.
* Contribute to the development of partnership working with agencies operating in the local authority.
* Promote and maintain a 'staying safe' culture across all areas of the college, ensuring best practices in safeguarding.
* Manage a personal caseload of safeguarding concerns and referrals, escalating complex cases to the Designated Safeguarding Lead as necessary.
* Develop and maintain effective relationships with external agencies such as Children’s Social Care, the Youth Offending Service, the Police, and mental health professionals.
* Represent the college at regular and ad hoc meetings organized by these agencies.
* Maintain confidential and accurate records of all safeguarding concerns, disclosures, and actions in accordance with the Data Protection Act 1998.
* Assist with the implementation and monitoring of the 'Prevent' anti-radicalisation initiative and other safeguarding-related actions.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
* Proven experience in a safeguarding role within an educational setting.
* Ability to work flexibly, including evenings if necessary, and travel between college sites.
* Strong understanding of the statutory obligations related to safeguarding in education.
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with students, staff, and external agencies.
* Proficiency in maintaining accurate and confidential records.
* Ability to deliver safeguarding training and contribute to staff development sessions.
* Commitment to continuous professional development in safeguarding and related areas.
