Social Worker and Designated Safeguarding Lead

This is a temporary role for a qualified Social Worker with at least 4 years of post-qualification experience to join Emerald Place, Charwood, Surrey as the Designated Safeguarding Lead. The role involves assessing the social care needs of young people with complex mental health and psychological needs, managing and supervising social work staff, and taking a lead in developing and managing the social work department.


Main duties of the job

The Social Worker and Designated Safeguarding Lead will be responsible for assessing the social care needs of young people, providing a quality social work service, and contributing towards the completion of service users' CPA documents. They will also be responsible for maintaining contact with young people's families, carers, and significant others, and promoting anti-discriminatory practice. Additionally, they will assist in the assessment of suitable after-care placements and maintain accurate and up-to-date records of their social work inputs to the care plan.

Job responsibilities

As a qualified Social Worker with at least 4 years post-qualification experience, you will be responsible for accessing the social care needs of young people and be a principal provider of a quality social work service as outlined in patient care plans. This will involve working with young people who have complex mental health and psychological needs. You will also bring knowledge of social policy and expertise in social work practice to maintain a quality service for service users and their families.

You will manage and supervise social work staff and take a lead in developing and managing the social work department.


Designated Safeguarding Lead duties

* Contributing towards completion of service users CPA documents providing comprehensive assessment reports when required.
* When part of an agreed care plan, completing focused work with individual young people using a range of interventions.
* Maintaining contact with young people's families, carers and/or significant others, offering support and information, and where relevant to the care plan, arranging joint family and patient sessions.
* Taking a leading role in promoting anti-discriminatory practice linking the young person's circumstances to broader social, political, legal and cultural contexts.
* Assisting in the assessment of suitable after-care placement in collaboration with the responsible Social Services Department or integrated NHS, working across professional boundaries.
* Maintaining accurate and up-to-date records of social work inputs to the care plan, including Section 117 care planning and transfer summaries reflecting the patient's views.
* Responsible for the day-to-day administration of annual leave and sickness within the social work department.


Qualifications

* Qualified Social Worker holding registration with Social Work England.
* Minimum of 4 years of post-qualification experience.
* Experience working within a forensic or eating disorder setting.

Emerald Place Clinic is a 12-bed general adolescent inpatient unit for the care and treatment of young people aged 13 to 18. The team supports young people with primary diagnoses of mental illness, neurodevelopmental disorders, mild learning disability, autism, and disordered eating.

Person Specification

To ensure success in this role, candidates should have the following:

* Qualified Social Worker holding registration with Social Work England.
* Minimum of 4 years of post-qualification experience, preferably in a forensic or eating disorder setting.


Disclosure and Barring Service Check

This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and will require a submission for Disclosure to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
