Background
The University has big plans for Professional Learning aligned with our role as the University of business, practice and the professions. The central Short Courses Team supports the University strategy by providing multi-format professional learning opportunities for students, staff, alumni and the community. The Professional Learning Operations Manager will support the efficient delivery of short courses including module development, quality assurance and instructor support with goal of growing the portfolio and leveraging short courses as pathways into degrees and other opportunities at the University.
Responsibilities
Oversee the operational delivery of short courses to drive income growth, learner satisfaction, and alignment with University strategy. Manage budgets, project plans, staffing, and course performance across portfolios. Lead learner support and ensure a high-quality experience from enquiry to completion. Build strong internal and external relationships, supporting visiting lecturers and liaising with departments. Ensure quality assurance, compliance, and process improvement. Provide updates to senior leadership. Support Educational Enterprise initiatives including summer schools, study abroad, and apprenticeships where required.
Person Specification
Degree or equivalent experience in Business, Operations, Higher Education, or related field. Proven experience in higher or professional education, with strong operational delivery, budget management, and team leadership. Skilled in process improvement, stakeholder engagement, and navigating change. Familiar with compliance, QA frameworks, and digital systems (e.g. CRM, learning platforms). Able to manage multiple priorities, communicate effectively, and translate strategy into action. Organised, detail-oriented, and adaptable in fast-paced environments, with a focus on quality, innovation, and learner experience.
