Assistant Buyer – Civil Engineering & Infrastructure
A leading UK civil engineering and infrastructure specialist is seeking an Assistant Buyer to join their growing procurement team. The Role
As an Assistant Buyer, you will play a key role in supporting nationwide delivery teams with a professional and compliant material supply service. You will liaise with internal teams, suppliers, and trade associations to achieve best value, while ensuring ethical and sustainable sourcing across the supply chain.
You’ll also be joining a team that is driving the company’s Social Impact and Sustainability objectives, giving you the chance to make a meaningful contribution to long-term business goals.
Key Responsibilities
* Procuring construction materials and related services across multiple projects.
* Managing supplier selection, evaluating quotations, and negotiating prices and logistics.
* Building and maintaining relationships with suppliers, sites, and internal stakeholders.
* Supporting commercial teams with budget control and contract awareness.
* Keeping supply chain records up to date and auditable using internal systems.
* Providing data, reports, and KPIs to support procurement and project teams.
About You
* Previous experience in a similar buying/procurement role, ideally within construction, rail, or engineering.
* Strong negotiation skills with the ability to build long-term supplier partnerships.
* Commercially aware, with the ability to monitor and control budgets.
* Excellent communication skills, both internally and externally.
* Proficient in Microsoft Office, with experience of using in-house purchasing systems.
* Able to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
* CIPS qualification (or working towards) and/or relevant degree is desirable.
* A full UK driving licence would be beneficial.
