Regulation 5
* Exercise of general professional duties
A teacher who is not a principal shall carry out the professional duties of a teacher as circumstances may require:-
* if he/she is employed as a teacher in a school under the reasonable direction of the principal of that school;
* if he/she is employed by a board on terms under which he is not assigned to any one school, under the reasonable direction of that board and of the principal of any school in which he/she may for the time being be required to work as a teacher.

Responsibilities
* Planning and preparing courses and lessons; teaching according to pupils’ educational needs; setting and marking work; assessing, recording and reporting on development, progress and attainment of pupils.
* Promoting the general progress and well‑being of pupils; providing advice and guidance to pupils on educational, social matters, and future careers; making records and reports as appropriate; communicating with parents and other approved bodies; participating in meetings.
* Providing or contributing to oral and written assessments, reports and references relating to pupils.
* Staff Development/Professional Development: participating in schemes of staff development and performance review; reviewing teaching methods; advising and cooperating with the Principal and other teachers in curriculum development and pastoral arrangements.
* Discipline/Health and Safety: maintaining good order and safeguarding health and safety; participating in meetings related to curriculum, administration or pastoral arrangements.
* Public Examinations: participating in arrangements for preparing pupils for public examinations and assessing and supervising examinations.
* Review and Development of Management/Administration: contributing to selection and development of other teachers; coordinating or managing work of other teachers; participating in review and development of curriculum, organisation and pastoral functions; attending assemblies and supervising pupil attendance as required.
* Number of days/hours of work: provisions regarding availability, hours, breaks, and cover obligations; adherence to statutory break requirements; other related duties and flexibility as described in the terms.

Section 1 – Essential Criteria
Qualifications/ Professional Membership
* Hold a teaching qualification that meets the requirements for recognition to teach in grant‑aided schools in Northern Ireland.
* Hold an honours degree (minimum 2:2) in English or a cognate subject with high academic content in curricular areas taught in English A level; and
* Hold a grade C (or higher) in English A level (or equivalent).
Other
* Be registered with the General Teaching Council for Northern Ireland (GTCNI) before taking up post.
Section 2 – Essential Criteria
Knowledge
* Knowledge of the Northern Ireland Curriculum; safeguarding and child protection policy/practice; SEND Code of Practice; a range of teaching strategies; IT systems and digital tools; current assessment methods.
Skills/Abilities
* Effective teaching and classroom management; inclusive learning environment; teamwork and collaboration with pupils, colleagues, parents and wider community; ability to motivate self and others; pupil‑centred approach; enthusiastic and reliable.
Interview and presentation elements include outlining engagement strategies and alignment with the school ethos (Banbridge Academy).
Section 3 – Desirable Criteria
Desirable criteria may be applied to determine a pool of candidates, including higher degree classification, ability to offer additional subjects, and other relevant qualifications or experience; completion of disclosures and pre-employment checks as required.
Disclosure of Criminal Background
The Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups (Northern Ireland) Order 2007 and Enhanced Disclosure requirements; applicants will meet the cost of Enhanced Disclosure as part of pre‑employment.
