Role Overview
We are seeking a UX Designer to join our collaborative, human-centred team at Lancaster University. In this role, you will conduct UX research, facilitate co-design sessions, develop artefacts like personas and wireframes, and iterate designs based on user feedback and testing. Your work will enhance digital services for students and staff, contributing to the future of digital in Higher Education.
Responsibilities
1. Plan and conduct UX research, including interviews, usability testing, and surveys to understand user needs and challenges.
2. Synthesise research findings into insights to inform design priorities and solutions.
3. Facilitate co-design workshops and feedback activities to collaboratively explore ideas.
4. Create artefacts such as personas, journey maps, wireframes, mock-ups, and prototypes.
5. Iterate designs based on evidence and stakeholder feedback, ensuring usability and inclusivity.
6. Ensure designs meet accessibility standards (WCAG 2.2, PSBAR) and align with university branding guidelines.
7. Collaborate with developers and colleagues across the digital ecosystem to implement designs effectively.
8. Contribute to a shared design library, UX principles, and best practices across the digital community.
About You
* Experience designing user-centred digital services through UX research and prototyping.
* Confidence in conducting qualitative and quantitative research, translating insights into design decisions.
* Proficiency with tools like Figma, FigJam, Miro, or similar.
* Strong understanding of accessibility, inclusive design, and interaction best practices.
* Excellent communication skills to present and explain your work.
* Commitment to collaborative design, open to feedback and iteration.
* Ability to work closely with users, developers, and stakeholders to co-create solutions.
* Curiosity and open-mindedness in problem-solving.
* Valuing evidence-based decision making and translating research into design.
* Clear and transparent communication, sharing ideas early and iterating collaboratively.
Location & Flexibility
The role is based at Lancaster University's Bailrigg campus, with flexible hybrid working arrangements. We expect team members to be on campus at least two days a week.
