An exciting opportunity for a Band 6 Clinical Nurse Specialist has become available within our Gynae Oncology Specialist Nursing team. This is a permanent position for 26 hours per week.
Join The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust, where our passion for excellence drives everything we do. We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated nurse who has excellent interpersonal skills to join our growing Clinical Nurse Specialist service.
Responsibilities
* Participate in the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care to ensure continuity of care for patients undergoing investigations/treatment for suspected or confirmed gynaecological malignancies.
* Demonstrate advanced communication skills (completion or recognised advanced communication skills course).
* Communicate effectively with patients, recognising barriers to understanding to provide and receive complex, highly sensitive and emotive information.
* Take responsibility for assessment, planning delivery and evaluation of nursing care in conjunction with the Gynae Oncology Consultant, using analytical judgemental skills, underpinned by theoretical knowledge to initiate the most appropriate care for the patient.
* Act as keyworker for patients with suspected or confirmed gynaecological cancers, providing specialist nursing advice to support patients and their families from the beginning of the pathway and throughout their cancer pathway.
* Work as the patient advocate to help navigate the patient journey and ensure optimum care is provided to each patient.
* Provide telephone support to patients, discussing symptoms and advising on management to prevent inappropriate admission to acute care.
* Adopt and maintain a flexible approach to patient care, recognising the changing needs of patients throughout their cancer pathway. Develop and work closely with MDT members regarding all aspects of the gynaecology oncology service.
* Be a key team member in delivering specialist gynae oncology nursing services to enable timely and effective care, appropriate assessment and intervention for patients with specialist gynaecology needs in all settings.
* Work as part of the specialist gynae oncology multidisciplinary team, supporting the specialist nursing service to ensure patients and carers receive high quality care, support and advice throughout investigations, diagnosis and surveillance of gynaecological malignancies.
Qualifications and Skills
* Demonstrated advanced communication skills (recognised advanced communication skills course or equivalent).
* Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate complex information sensitively and effectively.
