Smart Metering is a cornerstone of the UK’s transition to a net-zero energy system. Ensuring these arrangements operate efficiently, transparently, and effectively is essential. SECCo plays a key role in supporting and improving the Smart Energy Code (SEC) and the services delivered under it. The SEC facilitates smarter energy usage and underpins important developments across the energy sector.
SECCo is continuing to build a skilled, ambitious team to support the SEC Panel and enhance the service to SEC Parties. As part of this growth, we are recruiting an Industry Operations Analyst to join the Industry Operations Team.
About the role
This role plays a crucial part in supporting the delivery of operational improvements across the Smart Energy Code. You will have direct ownership of key industry operational activities and will be expected to take a proactive approach to supporting the SECCo Industry Operations Team and the SEC Operations Sub-Group (OPSG), managing risk and issue logs, and ensuring delivery of key industry outcomes.
🎯Key Responsibilities
* Ownership of Industry Risks & Issues: Take responsibility for tracking, managing, and reporting on key industry operational risks and issues, including working with our key stakeholders and industry partners (energy Suppliers, Distribution companies, the Data Communications Company (DCC) and Other Users) in developing mitigation plans and outlining clear paths to resolution.
* OPSG Support: Assist in the preparation and delivery of the Operations Group (OPSG) including forward agenda planning, and providing relevant updates in OPSG meetings.
* CTG Support: Support the Communications Transition Group (CTG) workstreams, deliverables, and documentation and the transition into OPSG BAU processes as per timing agreed by SEC Parties. On an enduring basis ensure that all CTG legacy documents are maintained, facilitate handover and address risks.
* SEC Compliance Support: Assisting in the regular reviews of the PMR (Performance Measurement Report), PMEL (Performance Measurement Evaluation List), and ensure obligations assigned to the OPSG are appropriately monitored and reviewed.
* Industry KPI Analysis: Conduct tracking and trend analysis on key industry KPIs, developing insights that support improved performance and timely escalation where necessary.
* Stakeholder Representation: Represent SECCo and the OPSG at relevant industry forums, contributing to discussions, capturing feedback, and influencing outcomes in line with SECCo priorities.
* Service Provider Engagement: Support ongoing engagement with DCC and other service providers to ensure performance is meeting SEC expectations, identify areas for improvement, and collaborate on resolution of persistent issues.
* Proactive Problem-Solving: Proactively identify gaps, inefficiencies, or emerging challenges in operational processes and propose practical, collaborative solutions.
🎯The successful candidate will have:
* At least 1–2 years of experience in a smart metering, regulatory or operational energy sector role
* Strong organisational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple workstreams and competing priorities
* A proactive mindset, with a proven ability to take ownership and drive delivery
* Good understanding of the Smart Energy Code (SEC), smart metering ecosystem, or willingness to quickly develop domain knowledge
* Strong analytical skills with experience using data to drive insight and support decision-making
* Clear and confident written and verbal communication skills
* A collaborative approach to stakeholder engagement and cross-functional working
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office (particularly Excel and PowerPoint); experience with SharePoint or similar collaboration tools is a plus.
🎯Desirable, but not essential:
* Familiarity with OPSG, SEC Panel sub-committees or similar governance bodies across the energy or utilities sector
* Experience managing risk logs, issue registers, and performance reporting
* Prior exposure to assurance frameworks or regulatory compliance processes
