Overview
The Assistant Claims Manager Marine Liability will lead and develop the London-based team of three, specialising in Marine Liability claims. The role involves managing complex lead primary and excess claims, ensuring strong governance and service standards.
Responsibilities
Lead a team of 3 individuals in London who are responsible for Marine Liability claims, maintaining a high-performing team to support the claims’ philosophy and overall underwriting and claims proposition.
Handle open market lead primary and excess claims and oversee delegated claims arrangements across all product lines.
Provide support and guidance to team members on strategy, coverage, reserving and escalation to senior management where appropriate.
Agree and monitor service standards/KPIs for delegated arrangements and elevate material issues in line with governance.
Act as a point person for the volume team in Leeds and manage the claim’s allocation between the London and Leeds teams.
Support Directors and product heads in the underwriting business plan process, identifying and detailing claims handling capabilities and resourcing requirements.
Provide technical input into product wordings and class-specific vendor and expert support.
Assist in producing monthly and quarterly reports on incurred movements, claims trends and key focus areas; present reports to support the quarterly reserving process.
Drive efficiencies and high performance within the team, reviewing priorities, workloads and future structure.
Produce, comment on and check monthly KPI reporting for clarity and accuracy; raise matters to the Claims Manager where necessary.
Drive broker interaction to deliver a customer-focused, value‑adding service; share relevant information with the Claims Manager and broader claims teams.
Promote proactive claims handling to showcase value as a market leader.
Qualifications
* Leadership capability, or demonstrated ability to lead a team.
* Experienced London Market claims practitioner with deep understanding of specific class of business and ability to handle high‑value, complex, international and multi‑party claims.
* Proven ability to manage class‑specific vendors and DCAs for high quality customer service.
* Positive relationships with key brokers, strong client‑management skills.
* Knowledge of Lloyd’s and Company market.
* Proficient user of London Market ECF or CLASS, strong IT skills including Microsoft Excel, claim MI, Microsoft Word, Outlook and in‑house systems.
