The CYP Eating Disorders Day Hospital Service is currently mobilising. This specialist provision delivers intensive, evidence-based care to children & young people experiencing moderate to severe eating disorders. This innovative service aims to bridge the gap between inpatient and community care, offering a safe and structured alternative to Tier 4 admission & facilitating earlier discharge from hospital settings.
Operating through a MDT working collaboratively to provide holistic, person-centred care, each professional brings their expertise to support physical health monitoring, nutritional rehabilitation, psychosocial interventions & occupational engagement, all tailored to the unique needs of each young person & their family.
* In-reach and Outreach support to prevent unnecessary hospital admissions & reduce relapse.
* Intensive day hospital interventions focused on recovery, risk management, & re-engagement with daily life.
* Meal support and psychoeducation for young people & their families, promoting sustainable recovery at home.
* Multidisciplinary care planning and supervision, ensuring continuity & quality of care across settings.
* Training and consultation to professionals and carers, enhancing system-wide understanding and support for eating disorders.
Main duties of the job
* To provide specialist occupational therapy service to children & young people with eating disorders.
* To undertake comprehensive assessments of each patient’s needs to formulate individualised management & treatment plans.
* To provide specialist advice to patients with eating disorders deemed to be a high physical risk, including identifying patients at high physical risks (e.g., risk of refeeding syndrome) and providing appropriate nutritional advice in liaison with the MDT and medical/dietetic colleagues.
* Deliver a range of non-pharmacological interventions following Occupational Therapy assessments to maximise an individual’s abilities and address unmet needs.
* Complete and contribute to robust risk assessments & risk management plans.
* Utilise agreed outcome measures as part of the care planning & evaluation process.

Qualifications
* Essential
* The post holder will be a HCPC Registered Occupational Therapist.
* Evidence of post qualification development at masters level or further highly specialist knowledge (desirable).
* The post holder will have additional qualifications (Leadership, service improvement) or willingness to work towards these.
* Desirable
* Post Graduate studies in dietetics or related accredited courses/training in Eating Disorders, Mental Health, CBT or Counselling skills (e.g., Motivational Interviewing / Behaviour Change).
* Attendance at relevant Special Interest Groups/Meetings (e.g., Mental Health Group).
Experience
* Essential
* Experience of assessment and management of specialist interventions in eating disorders, long-term conditions and disease in hospital and outpatient settings.
* Experience of delivering clinical supervision and caseload management.
* Supportive work with service users, families and carers in dealing with clinical conditions and related nutrition/dietary management.
* Desirable
* Significant experience in inpatient and outpatient eating disorder services, and in specialist mental health/learning disability settings.
* Experience of supervising other staff.
Skills
* Essential
* Demonstrate working knowledge/understanding of evidence-based practice.
* Ability to assess and evaluate complex conditions.
* Ability to formulate risk management plans and evaluate regularly.
