Introduction/Background:
The team provides high quality support to students with a range of learning difficulties and disabilities, including D/deaf students, students with Autistic Spectrum Disorders, Physical Access needs, Learning Disabilities, Visual Impairment, and Language Impairment.
Primary purpose of the role:
Support students with learning difficulties and disabilities to become empowered to fully access the curriculum and successfully achieve their programme of study by developing greater independence.
Key responsibilities:
1. Collaborate with subject staff and assessors under the guidance of the Learning Support Manager to support students in various learning environments, including activities like reading materials aloud, note-taking, word processing, using enabling technologies, and developing language and metacognitive skills.
2. Empower students to achieve their personalized learning outcomes, including those outlined in Education, Health and Care Plans.
3. Adapt learning resources, such as enlarging text or modifying language, to ensure accessibility.
4. Promote independence and champion inclusive learning support.
5. Provide support outside classroom settings, including breaks, lunch, trips, and off-campus study programs.
6. Maintain records related to attendance, targets, and progress, ensuring accurate documentation of support provided.
7. Participate in team meetings and contribute to continuous improvement of learning support services.
8. Assist with therapy interventions like physiotherapy and speech therapy following professional guidance.
9. Review support needs with students and participate in statutory reviews as required.
10. Undertake relevant training and professional development.
Qualifications:
* General education
* GCSE English and Maths or equivalent at grade C/4 or above
Related experience:
* Recent and demonstrable experience supporting individuals with special educational needs.
Additional requirements:
* Willingness to represent the department at welcome events.
* Prepared to undergo relevant training.
* Flexible to work across all college faculties as needed.
* Skills and attributes: high sensitivity, empathy, motivation, teamwork, computer literacy, independence, note-taking skills.
