Main duties of the job
As Senior Nurse Manager, you will:
* Provide visible, compassionate and credible nursing leadership across urgent and emergency care services
* Lead on quality, safety and experience, ensuring robust governance and learning cultures
* Shape and support workforce models, including advanced practice, skill mix and new roles
* Drive admission avoidance and flow improvement, aligned to system priorities
* Support escalation, resilience and recovery planning across acute and community settings
* Work collaboratively with medical, operational and system leaders to deliver integrated care

Hywel Dda University Health Board plans and provides NHS healthcare services for people living in Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Pembrokeshire, and bordering counties.
We have over 13,000 staff and together we provide primary, community, in-hospital, mental health and learning disabilities services.
We work in partnership with the three local authorities, as well as public, private and third sector colleagues, including our valued team of volunteers.
Our services are provided in:

Job responsibilities
The Senior Nurse Manager (Urgent and Emergency Care) provides professional, clinical and operational leadership for nursing services within Urgent and Emergency Care. The post holder is accountable for nursing standards, workforce leadership, quality, safety, patient experience and service improvement across their defined area of responsibility.
This is a senior autonomous leadership role, requiring the post holder to act as a credible, visible and accessible nursing leader, capable of providing highly specialised advice, managing clinical risk, and ensuring delivery of safe, effective and high‑quality urgent and emergency care services.

Person Specification
Qualifications and Knowledge
* Registered Nurse Level 1 and current NMC Registration.
* MSc in Nursing or equivalent experience.
* Relevant post graduate courses and/or experience within specialties involved with the position.
* Evidence of continuous management development.
* Must have a recognised management qualification or equivalent demonstrable experience.
* Knowledge of quality improvement methodologies.
* Knowledge and understanding of current policy and issues in professional practice, compliance, standards and the wider NHS.
* A thorough understanding of the role and its purpose within the organisation.
Experience
* Experience of practice development.
* Experience of an NHS acute sector middle management role.
* Experience of managing change.
* Proven experience of clinical leadership at a senior management level.
* Able to control expenditure to a budget and develop adequate controls for doing so.
* Direct experience of major service and organisation change and knowledge of how to navigate a service through a successful change programme.
* Experience of managing staff and working with staff Trades Unions / staff representatives.
* Improving Quality Together (IQT Bronze/ Silver)
Language Skills
* Must be empathetic to and supportive of the aims of the Welsh Language Act.
* Ability to speak Welsh/appreciation of the Welsh language
