Overview
Theatre Practitioner – Scrub
37.5 hours permanently at The Chiltern Hospital, Great Missenden. Salary up to £43,000 per year (depends on experience, training and qualification). Applicants must be able to travel to the sister site – The Shelburne Hospital in High Wycombe – for dual‑site working.
Duties
* Assist the surgical team by preparing instruments, maintaining sterility, anticipating surgeon needs and ensuring equipment safety.
* Support the anaesthetist with equipment preparation, patient monitoring, airway management and positioning; provide post‑operative care, monitor vital signs, manage pain and nausea and ensure patient readiness for discharge.
* Adhere to infection prevention and control policies and procedures at all times.
* Set up operating theatres according to surgery type and specific patient requirements.
* Check all surgical and anaesthetic equipment before use and report faults immediately.
* Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to achieve safe and efficient surgical lists.
* Support and contribute to a positive, respectful and efficient theatre environment.
Requirements
* Registered Nurse (NMC) or Operating Department Practitioner (HCPC).
* Experience or training in a theatre environment specialising in scrub, anaesthetics or recovery.
* Understanding of infection control, manual handling and patient safety principles.
* Ability to work under pressure, problem‑solve and respond quickly to changes in a dynamic environment.
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
* Attention to detail, accuracy and commitment to safe surgical practice.
* Previous orthopaedic experience.
