An established construction business is looking to bring in a motivated Assistant Quantity Surveyor / Commercial Assistant to join its growing commercial team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to build a long-term career in commercial management, with clear progression into a fully-fledged Quantity Surveyor role.
The Role:
You’ll support the commercial team across a variety of construction projects, gaining hands-on experience in cost management, procurement, and financial reporting. Initially, the role will include a mix of commercial and administrative responsibilities, offering a well-rounded introduction to the business and industry.
Key Responsibilities:
* Assist with the preparation of budgets, tenders, and valuations
* Support procurement of materials and subcontractors, including price negotiation and order placement
* Monitor project costs to ensure budgets are maintained
* Work closely with project teams to identify risks and manage contracts
* Attend site visits to review progress and identify variations
* Prepare financial reports and cash flow forecasts
* Support monthly financial reviews and final account processes
* Build strong relationships with subcontractors and suppliers
* Ensure compliance with company policies and industry standards
* Provide general administrative support to the commercial team
About You:
* Degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management (preferred but not essential)
* Strong numerical and analytical skills with great attention to detail
* Confident communicator with good negotiation ability
* Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Office tools
* Proactive, organised, and eager to learn
* Able to work independently and as part of a team
* Full UK driving licence (preferred due to site visits)
