About the Role:
We are recruiting on behalf of our client, a leading company in the metal fabrication and machining industry, who is looking for a skilled Production Planner/Scheduler to join their dynamic team. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with a strong background in metal manufacturing to contribute to the smooth running of production and help optimise workflows.
As a Production Planner/Scheduler, you will be responsible for planning, scheduling, and coordinating the movement of materials and work orders in the metal shop. Your role will ensure that all production targets are met, materials are available, and the shop operates efficiently and safely.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Production Scheduling & Coordination
* Plan and prioritise production schedules, ensuring tasks are completed on time and within budget.
* Coordinate production across various metalworking areas including fabrication, cutting, machining, welding, and finishing.
* Utilise ERP/MRP systems to track progress, monitor material usage, and ensure inventory levels are maintained.
* Collaborate with production, engineering, and quality teams to resolve any issues and ensure specifications are met.
2. Material & Inventory Management
* Ensure that all raw materials, consumables, tooling, and fixtures required for metalworking processes are available on time.
* Raise purchase orders and maintain stock levels to ensure a continuous supply of materials for production.
* Use ERP/MRP systems to monitor and update material usage, stock movements, and inventory records.
3. Quality & Compliance Support
* Assist with first-off checks and inspections to ensure all metal components meet specifications and quality standards.
* Report any quality issues to the production team and ensure corrective actions are taken.
* Ensure compliance with health & safety standards, focusing on safe machine operation, PPE, and safe handling of materials.
4. Communication & Team Support
* Act as the communication point between the metal shop and other departments, ensuring smooth and efficient workflows.
* Provide daily updates on production status, material availability, and any schedule changes.
* Assist in the onboarding and training of new operatives, ensuring they understand the processes and safety requirements.
Skills & Experience Required:
* Experience in a metalworking or metal fabrication environment (e.g., welding, machining, cutting, fabrication).
* Strong organisational, planning, and scheduling skills.
* Proficiency with ERP/MRP systems for production planning and material management.
* Knowledge of metalworking processes and the ability to read engineering drawings and technical documentation.
* A good understanding of health & safety practices in a metal shop environment.
* Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
