The Job:
An established wedding and events venue set within 20 acres is seeking an experienced Head Grower to lead vegetable and fruit production across its smallholding. The estate hosts over weddings each year, and the outdoor space plays a central role in both guest experience and food provision.
The Head Grower will manage approximately one acre of vegetable beds, five polytunnels, two fruit cages and two orchards. The role combines hands on growing with forward planning, team leadership and seasonal production management. The site follows organic principles, although it is not formally certified.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading day to day vegetable and fruit production
- Overseeing sowing, planting, crop care, harvesting and post harvest handling
- Planning crop rotations and seasonal growing programmes
- Aligning production with kitchen and event requirements
- Managing irrigation, composting, soil health, and pest control
- Preparing for peak production periods and reviewing seasonal outcomes
- Leading, training, and supporting the growing team
- Managing labour and input costs in line with commercial objectives
- Maintaining equipment, infrastructure, and safe working practices

The Candidate:
- Several seasons’ experience leading a commercial vegetable growing operation
- Practical understanding of organic growing principles
- Proven experience managing and developing a small team
- Experience of budgeting, cost control, or production accounting
- Experience growing for hospitality or events
- Experience within a visitor-facing or mixed-use site
- Knowledge of polytunnels, orchards, and diversified growing systems
The Package
- Salary £28, – £34, per annum DOE
- Full-time, permanent role (37.5 hours per week)
