The job itself
We are seeking an exceptional Assistant Headteacher to join our Senior Leadership Team, with responsibility for safeguarding as the school’s Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL).
The Role
This is a key leadership role within the school. In addition to supporting the Headteacher and Deputy Headteacher in the day-to-day management of the school, the successful candidate will play a vital part in maintaining the highest standards of safeguarding and child protection; and in supporting staff to ensure every child is safe, supported, and able to thrive.
The role is for 19.5 - 26 hours (0.6 - 0.8 of a full time role) and the salary range is L1-L5.
As Assistant Headteacher, you will:
1. Provide whole-school leadership and development as part of the Senior Leadership Team
2. Support self-evaluation, improvement planning, and monitoring
3. Support high-quality teaching and learning across the school
4. Take strategic and operational responsibility for safeguarding and child protection across the school
5. Ensure that safeguarding policies and procedures are fully embedded, compliant, and effective
6. Work closely with external agencies, families, and staff to secure the best outcomes for pupils
7. Lead and contribute to staff training and safeguarding culture
8. Be a visible and approachable leader for pupils, staff, and parents
The Successful Candidate Will:
9. Be an outstanding primary practitioner with leadership experience
10. Be willing to fully commit to the School Aims
11. Have Designated Safeguarding Lead training
12. Possess a strong and up-to-date understanding of safeguarding legislation and guidance (including Keeping Children Safe in Education)
13. Demonstrate excellent interpersonal, organisational, and decision-making skills
14. Be committed to inclusion, child-centred practice, and high expectations for all pupils
15. Be resilient, reflective, and able to work calmly under pressure. The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff to share this commitment.
