Waking Nights Officer Location: Doncaster Client: City of Doncaster Council Contract Type: Permanent, Part-time Hours: 21 hours per week Salary: Grade 7, £27,259 – £29,955 (pro rata) 17.5% all-inclusive allowance About the Role We are currently recruiting Waking Nights Officers to work in our Children’s Residential Homes, supporting children and young people with disabilities and complex care needs. You will work under the supervision of the Registered Manager, providing a warm, caring, and enabling environment for young people. This is a crucial role requiring you to provide overnight supervision and support to ensure safety, comfort, and wellbeing throughout the night. Key Responsibilities Provide care to meet the emotional, social, and physical needs of children and young people. Maintain a safe and secure environment during night shifts. Undertake general housekeeping duties including cleaning, washing, and ironing. Complete documentation and clerical tasks relating to children’s files. Carry out regular discreet checks on young people as directed. Report incidents and liaise with external agencies if required (e.g. Police, Social Care). Cover additional night shifts during colleague absences (leave/training/sickness). Participate in training and development activities, including Therapeutic Crisis Intervention. Promote positive outcomes through care planning and active involvement in reviews. Maintain confidentiality and adhere to all council policies and safeguarding practices. Experience & Knowledge Previous experience (paid or voluntary) working with children and young people. Awareness of cultural diversity and group dynamics. Ability to communicate effectively in both written and verbal form. Experience in children’s residential settings. Creative, sporting, or musical skills. Skills & Competencies Confident and self-aware, with a mature and professional manner. Able to work independently and as part of a team. Basic IT skills. Flexible and able to work beyond standard hours when required. Willing to undertake and complete QCF Level 3 in care of children and young people within two years of enrolment. Additional Requirements Enhanced Level DBS Disclosure required. Must meet the physical and mobility requirements of the role (with reasonable adjustments if necessary). This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 – all convictions (spent and unspent) must be declared. Additional Benefits 17.5% inclusive allowance for unsocial hours. 2 weekends off in every 4-week rota. Access to the South Yorkshire Pension Scheme. Overtime paid at time and a quarter for hours worked over 37 hours per week.
