Laboratory Technician – R&D
6-month fixed term contract (with potential to extend)
£ competitive, depending on skills, experience and background
This role can be considered on a full or part-time basis (if applying for part-time hours, please state your preference of hours/days per week)
Reporting to the Head of Biology, this is a rare opportunity to join an established group of Scientists working towards the development of novel antibody technology in the infectious disease and oncology space. Supporting the laboratory staff and processes, this role in integral to moving the business forward to their next exciting phase.
Core duties and responsibilities:
Providing essential support to the Laboratory team, including but not limited to:
* Preparation of media and reagents, broths, buffers and solutions through accurate and methodical adherence to the SOPs and other established protocols.
* Inventory of the media stores and ordering of the Lab reagents and chemicals required for the experiments. Anticipating the needs of the wider team, stay on top of the stock levels and seek order approval through the correct channels.
* Responsible for the routine cleaning and maintenance of lab equipment, for example the centrifuges, autoclaves, microscopes and pipettes. Ensuring they are always in good working order and arranging for engineers to attend if equipment fails.
* Support the Lab Scientists with the ongoing research projects; this could involve preparing samples, recording data and some general experimental processes.
* Keep all bench and storage spaces clean and well organised, with any necessary instruments and materials close to hand.
* Ensure all Health and Safety protocols are adhered to at all times, such as waste disposal and correct use of PPE. Keeping records well-maintained and personally contribute to the safety and quality culture of the business.
Your background:
* Minimum BSc in a Biological discipline or equivalent/related.
* You will have some industry laboratory exposure and ideally have worked with media and reagents, autoclave and glassware washing, experimental prep and clean-down, stores/stock ordering and adherence to SOPs.
* High attention to detail, demonstrating a methodical and vigilant approach to lab safety.
* Proficient user of MS Office and databases, with good command of written and spoken English and exemplary communication skills.
* Collaborative, able to work independently and pre-empt the needs of the wider team.
