JOIN OUR TEAM – MARKET SUPERVISOR OPPORTUNITY
Lymington & Pennington Town Council is looking for a part-time Market Supervisor who is passionate about markets. The successful applicant will have strong operational and people skills and demonstrate a willingness to help support stallholders and ensure the smooth operation of the renowned Lymington Charter Market on the High Street.
The Council operates a rota system for the team of Market Supervisors. The role involves working 14 hours per shift; Friday evenings from 6pm to 8pm and Saturdays from 6am to 6pm.
This position would suit someone seeking a flexible part-time role, who enjoys working outdoors and has a friendly, sociable nature.
The post is 14 hours per week and is based at both the Town Hall, Lymington, S041 9ZG and in person at the market.
Main Job Purpose:
* Allocate pitches.
* Collect fees if needed where these have not been paid in advance.
* Set out and remove road signage.
* Liaise with Market stallholders, other Supervisors and Council Officers and ensure the smooth running of the Market.
Main Duties:
* To liaise with stallholders and manage general enquiries on a Friday evening and all-day Saturday.
* To check weather forecasts on Friday regarding weather warnings and act on findings in liaison with the office.
* At all times, maintain an independent status to ensure there is no risk of a conflict of interest with stallholders. No gifts of any nature (including tips) may be accepted.
* To set out and gather in the 'no-entry' cages, traffic cones and 'no parking' signs at 6am and 6pm respectively on a Saturday ensuring emergency access is maintained throughout all market operations and liaising with the relevant agencies as required.
* To enforce the Market rules and regulations at all times in line with the Market Policy.
* To ensure the traders have the necessary public liability insurance in place.
* To ensure the removal of trader vehicles from the High Street until Market closure.
* To meet casual traders and allocate pitches.
* To write receipts for and collect fees from traders & take contactless machine payment.
* To deal with any enquiries and use discretion in suggesting to Council what goods may be sold.
* To keep Council Officers appraised of any areas of conflict.
* To attend occasional meetings with Council Officers and/or Market Sub-Committee.
* To ensure Health & Safety concerns are addressed including Environmental Health issues regarding foodstuff.
* To undertake any other such duties as may be required from time to time commensurate with the level of the post.
