The role Are you passionate about safety and precision? Reporting to the Environmental Services and Transport Manager, you'll play a vital role in ensuring our vehicle operations run smoothly and safely as a Banksperson, part of the Environmental Team. This is a hands-on role where you'll assist with loading and unloading equipment, setting out signage and barriers, and supporting essential wastewater operations such as emptying cesspits, septic tanks, and pumping stations. You'll also help maintain and clean commercial and domestic wastewater assets, ensuring our communities stay safe and functional. We'll provide you with all the tools, uniform, safety boots, and PPE you need to succeed. In return, we're looking for someone who can work outdoors in all weathers, handle physically demanding tasks, and take pride in delivering a high-quality service. The role will be based across Kent, London, Sussex. To be successful for this role you will need to hold a full UK driving licence (with no more than 6 points and no serious offences in the last 10 years), and at least two years' driving experience. What you'll be doing You will support the tanker driver with the safe manoeuvring of HGV vehicles in challenging environments, including tight rural lanes, restricted sites, and busy public highways, ensuring hazards such as overhead cables, soft verges, and underground services are avoided. The role includes loading and unloading equipment, setting out signage, cones, and barriers, lifting manhole covers, and assisting with the emptying of cesspits, septic tanks, sewage treatment plants, and pumping stations. You will support day‑to‑day wastewater operations, responding to blockages, drainage issues, and operational challenges, and carry out jetting, cleaning, and minor repairs to commercial and domestic wastewater assets across communal areas and neighbourhoods. Flexibility is essential, with early starts from 07:00 and occasional late working to support breakdowns or service demands, alongside a strong commitment to Health & Safety at all times. What you'll need You'll be able to collaborate with drivers for effective vehicle movement. You'll be able to safely direct vehicle movements on work site and help drivers make safe manoeuvres around work area. Able to work safely, follow procedures, and prevent risk. Can prioritise tasks under pressure. You'll need to be prepared for heavy lifting and physically demanding work. Be comfortable working within wet waste (sewage) environment. You'll have previous experience emptying cesspits, septic tanks, sewage treatment plants and pumping stations. To engage with residents professionally, even in challenging situations. You'll have a good knowledge of Drainage Systems, Operations of High-Pressure Water Jetting and Drain Cleaning.
