Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) – SEND (Maternity Cover)
Location: South Birmingham, near Harborne
Start Date: September
Contract Type: Supply (via Connex Education)
Working Hours: 30 hours per week (4 days – must include Thursday and Friday, 8:15am–4:15pm)
Hillcrest School, an all-round Outstanding secondary school in South Birmingham, is seeking a committed and experienced SEND HLTA to join our supportive Learner Support Department from September. This is a fantastic opportunity to work in a thriving, inclusive environment, supporting the needs of our students and making a meaningful impact while covering a maternity leave.
About the Role:
Under the direction of the AHT SENDCo and SEND Lead Practitioner, the successful candidate will:
1. Support the day-to-day operations of the Learner Support provision.
2. Deliver high-quality intervention and support for students with a range of SEND needs, particularly those with social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) challenges.
3. Work closely with staff, external agencies, and families to ensure coordinated, tailored support.
4. Plan and deliver bespoke interventions and small group work, maintaining accurate records.
Essential Criteria:
5. Proven experience working with secondary-aged students with SEND, especially those with SEMH needs.
6. Experience working with local authority agencies and families, delivering targeted interventions.
7. Strong interpersonal skills and a collaborative approach to working within a team.
8. Excellent attendance and reliability.
Desirable Criteria:
9. HLTA status or Level 3 TA qualification.
10. Recent safeguarding training.
11. Experience using IT systems such as Microsoft Office and CPOMs.
12. Previous experience managing or leading TAs in a secondary school setting.
