The children that attend this school struggle with their mental health and anxiety and this can impact their education and behaviour. Not only do they struggle with coping with their emotions and mental health needs, they still need to get through the school day and ensure that they are meeting their goals. This is where your role as Mental Health Assistant comes in!
You will support them with all their needs in the classroom and model healthy ways for them to cope with their emotions. While you will be supporting the children, you will have the support of the class teacher yourself!
Your day to day as a Mental Health Assistant:
Providing support and assistance in 1 to 1 or in small group settings.
You will take part in providing specific teaching techniques
Reinforce any therapeutic techniques that the teacher has put in place to support the children Those who have a degree in psychology or criminology will greatly benefit from this role and the experience it offers. Those with similar degrees are also encouraged to apply. If you don't have a degree, but are still looking to make a difference, we want to hear from you! Patience and a great attitude are important!
Qualities you need to be successful in your role as Mental Health Assistant:
Calm, compassionate and kind
Patient and determined to make a difference
Take initiative well and able to deal with challenging behaviours
Able to create a safe and engaging environment where students can flourish and thrive
Understand how important safeguarding is
