Project Manager – Generative AI, Computer Vision & LLM Development
The Centre for Vision, Speech, and Signal Processing is seeking a Project Manager to support major research projects in generative AI, computer vision and large‑language‑model development. The role sits within Professor Bowden’s sign‑language research group at CVSSP, which leads a portfolio of multi‑partner, multi‑million‑pound projects with partners such as the University of Oxford, UCL, and Google.org. The position is funded through the SignGPT EPSRC Programme Grant and is offered for 2 years at 0.5 FTE, with the possibility of a larger FTE or longer‑term contract.
Surrey’s Institute for People‑Centred AI builds on 40 years of foundational AI work at CVSSP, ranked 1st in the UK for Computer Vision and top‑5 in Audio‑Visual AI and Robotics.
Responsibilities
Act as the single point of contact across the SignGPT portfolio and other collaborative projects, ensuring that the operational aspects of these multi‑partner initiatives run smoothly. Coordinate project activities, facilitate communication between partners, manage milestones and deliverables, and support the project team in achieving project objectives.
Qualifications
• Project management experience and, ideally, a professional project‑management qualification.
• Experience managing large, multi‑partner research projects in AI or related fields.
• Knowledge of sign language and awareness of Deaf culture; working knowledge of British Sign Language (BSL) is advantageous.
• Deaf candidates with suitable project‑management experience are encouraged to apply.
