The starting salary for this role will usually be at the bottom of the salary range and will be pro-rata if the working hours are less than full time.


The Role & Key Responsibilities

From your first day with us you will be part of a policing family making a real difference.

It is our mission to identify and protect vulnerable people, prevent and respond to harm and keep people safe.

In this role you will be liaising with visitors regarding their visit to the Old Police Cells Museum from beginning to end. This which will include correspondence with visitors, ensuring museum tours are staffed and organised, and liaising with schools regarding educational visits as well as associated billing.

The VEC will ensure visitors receive an excellent welcome, both via email and during their visit, so they have an inspiring, memorable and safe visit. The VEC will promote the museum as a visitor destination, ensuring a range of information and services are offered.

This post will primarily be based at the Brighton Town Hall, but the post holder will be required to work from home/remotely on occasion and in Lewes, at the office of the PCC when required.

Responsibilities

* You will play a key role in the running of the Old Police Cells Museum as Sussex Police's heritage site
* Your work will be crucial in ensuring visitors, from individuals to schools feel valued and enjoy their experience with us
* You will be the front of house for the museum, understanding that your interactions shape the museum's reputation to the public
* You will play a key role in museum decisions, such as guiding times and volunteer support, as well as curatorial and collections decisions
* You will facilitate income generation through admissions as well as maintaining an excellent customer service environment
* Help manage the day to day running of the museum, alongside the Museum Director
* Be an ambassador for the museum to the wider public, schools and policing community, via correspondence, social media and guiding when applicable

Please note this is a 2 year fixed term position (with potential to become permanent). Post holder will be required to work Saturdays.


Skills & Experience

* Have experience of day to day running of a customer focused operation, including key holding, income reconciliation, health and safety etc.
* A proven track record of providing outstanding customer service and ensuring a strong visitor customer experience is delivered by the team.
* Experience in tour guiding and/or public speaking at a heritage / historical site / educational setting.
* Experience of supervising a team of volunteers
* Have excellent communication skills. The ability to converse at ease with customers and provide advice in accurate spoken and written English
* Have good IT skills and experience of using MS Word, email, spreadsheets and web-based systems
* Can use your own initiative and problem solve.
* Flexible, adaptable and a team player to meet the needs of the museum.
