Knowledge, skills and experience:
1. Qualifications
Hold a current recognised pool lifesaving qualification.
2. Skills and Knowledge
Knowledge of the sport and leisure environment.
Good interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with customers using various communication methods with tact, discretion and diplomacy.
Proactive and positive approach to dealing with customers.
Ability and willingness to promote and sell facilities.
Ability and willingness to assist in training and mentoring staff.
Ability to safely carry out the duties of a pool lifeguard.
Flexibility to work early mornings, evenings, weekends, and bank holidays.
Creativity and innovation:
Work is regulated by policies, procedures, and guidance. Occasionally, the post holder may need to respond creatively to routine problems, such as deciding to call for assistance when swimmers do not adhere to pool rules.
Contacts and relationships:
Routine operational contacts include Duty Managers, customers, and operational staff, mainly for instructions, inquiries, comments, and passing information.
Decision making:
Decisions are guided by policies and safety guidance. Matters not clearly defined should be referred to senior management.
Responsibility for resources:
Shared responsibility for small equipment and cleaning machinery.
Work Environment
Work demands: Subject to interruptions, with short-term deadlines for setting up equipment.
Physical demands: Regularly involves strenuous activities like moving and erecting sports equipment.
Working conditions: Mainly indoors, with occasional outdoor tasks, exposure to noise, heat, humidity, and cold.
Work context: Risks include verbal and physical abuse, moving equipment, lone working, and rescue scenarios.
