Job Summary

We offer a flexible approach to division of roles and responsibilities within our small, friendly and experienced practice team. The clinical teams are also well supported by an excellent administration and management team; this allows our GPs to concentrate on clinical work. We are looking for an enthusiastic, experienced GP who will take a leading role in improving patient outcomes, especially in areas such as diabetes, and contribute towards redesigning services locally by representing the practice at PCN and IC/S level. We host various trainees (GP Speciality training Registrars, Pre‑Reg Pharmacists, Nursing Assistants, etc.) and want a GP willing to mentor some of our current trainees or students. You will be a team player who supports and contributes to our programme of continuous improvements, clinical meetings and ensures we maintain our high QOF results.

Main Duties of the Job

* Deliver Primary Medical Services via surgeries, clinics and visits as defined via the job plan.
* Make professionally autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whether self‑referred or referred internally within the organisation.
* Receive patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems and make assessment of their health‑care needs.
* Develop with the patient a care plan for health.
* Provide counselling and health education.
* Admit or discharge patients to and from caseload and refer them to other care providers internally or externally as appropriate.
* Work with and support other health professionals within the team to ensure best care for patients.
* Provide clinical leadership for the delivery of the clinical service.
* Identify and implement the key processes, both primary and internal, that support the clinical service.
* Understand how the steps of these key processes add value to the patient.
* Appoint appropriate individuals to lead the key processes.
* Promote the IntraHealth vision of health delivery to all participants who deliver the clinical service.
* Be involved in the recruitment of good‑quality staff and support the systems for mentoring, appraisal (including of communication skills), professional development and support.
* Continuously improve the reliability of the processes within the specialty.
* Pursue the highest quality outcomes of care.
* Maintain a patient focus for the delivery of the service.
* Promote a culture of change and innovation; eliminate wasteful activity.
* Ensure that the Clinical Governance agenda is actively implemented across the service so as to achieve both safe clinical practice and cost‑effectiveness.
* Ensure that the National Quality Requirements and any other specified contractual requirements are achieved. Monitor performance against targets for access, triage, and clinical interventions.
* Implement action plans for areas of non‑achievement of targets and quality standards.
* Provide clinical support in the management of complaints ensuring compliance with the complaints procedure and that all complaints are resolved within the timescales set.
* Review and provide feedback on staff performance.
* Review significant events and clinical incidents.
* Review patient satisfaction surveys.
* Ensure contingency plans and escalation procedures are effective.
* Maintain a policy for record keeping, including written and other media, and the passage of information to staff that complies with Data Protection, Access to Records and Freedom of Information.
* Be involved in the recruitment of clinical staff.
* Provide mentorship and support to nurses in the practice undergoing non‑medical prescribing and advanced clinical skills development.
* Support the development of the clinical roles of other health‑care professionals to complement the GP role.

Qualifications

* Registered with the GMC listed on the GMC GP Register with evidence of re‑validation.
* Accepted medical degree.
* Evidence of continued personal and professional development.
* Appropriate medical indemnity cover with either MDU/MPS MDDUS.
* Appropriate safeguarding training.
* Registered on the National Medical Performers list.
* Management qualification or equivalent relevant experience (Desirable).


Essential Experience

* Knowledge of National Primary Care agenda, including experience of managing professional issues, and fitness to practice.
* Experience of multi‑disciplinary and multi‑agency working.
* Evidence of leadership development.
* Experience of working across professional boundaries, able to enthuse and inspire others using advanced communication.
* Engaging with patients and public (PPG) to learn and improve experience.
* Good knowledge, understanding and implementation of safeguarding policies and practices.


Desirable Experience

* Experience of working in different sectors of the NHS.
* Experience of working within a PCN.
* Experience of staff development and performance management.
* Interest in teaching allied healthcare professionals / GP registrars.
* Interest in diabetes.
