This position involves providing comprehensive school psychological evaluations using various techniques to determine the eligibility of children suspected of being handicapped.
Flint Community Schools, an urban public school system in Flint, Michigan, offers a rich tradition of community education, with a range of academic, extended services, and extracurricular activities at both elementary and secondary levels to meet student and family needs.
Essential Functions:
1. Ensure the rights of students with handicapping conditions and their parents are maintained and safeguarded.
2. Participate in establishing procedures for early identification and intervention for learning, social, and emotional difficulties in pre-assessment of students suspected of being handicapped.
3. Provide assessment and written psychological evaluations of intelligence, achievement, personality, and adaptive behavior to determine eligibility for mental impairment, learning disability, emotional impairment, or other conditions.
4. Serve as Chairperson for the Multidisciplinary Evaluation Team (MET) meetings and the Individual Educational Planning Committee (IEPC) for mental impairment considerations.
5. Participate in METs to consider learning disabilities and emotional impairments as handicapping conditions, along with other necessary METs.
6. Provide comprehensive psychological reports for each evaluated student.
7. Participate in support staff meetings and in-services as needed.
8. Implement special education policies and procedures across assigned buildings.
9. Interpret psychological assessment data meaningfully to parents, teachers, and administrators.
Qualifications:
Education: Specialist Degree in School Psychology or equivalent, with State full approval and/or certification as a school psychologist (Special Education Code Rule 340.1152).
